Semester Study Abroad Application Steps

Important Study Abroad Message: Do you meet the semester study abroad requirements? All students who desire to study abroad during the fall, spring and/or summer semesters must receive department chair approval and complete an online study abroad application with supporting documentation.

  1. Review semester Study Abroad Requirements for study abroad eligibility.
  2. Contact your Academic Advisor and/or Department Chair to determine any required courses expected of you during the semester of travel.
  3. Explore semester Study Abroad opportunities with our Approved Program Providers.
  4. Receive study abroad program advisement with Dr. Clay at kclay2@spelman.edu for questions.
  5. Submit a Preliminary Application for Department Chair Approval. Log-in with your iNotes credentials by sending an email to stsservicedesk@spelman.edu requesting iNotes access for Study Abroad. Be sure to include the subject: iNotes for Study Abroad.
  6. With Department Chair(s) approval, proceed to the Spelman Study Abroad Application.
    (a) complete the Study Abroad Application and one page 200-500 word statement
    (b) upload a picture with a white background
    (c) upload a copy of valid passport
    (d) upload resume
    (e) upload unofficial transcript (Official Transcript is due the semester before travel. Order your official transcript and send electronically to Dr. Karen Clay).
  7. Obtain two letters of recommendation from Spelman faculty. One of the letters of recommendation must be from a faculty member in the major. We encourage students to provide our
SAB Recommendation Form in lieu of a written recommendation on letterhead.
  8. Submit the online Health Statement Form.
  9. Apply to a Program Provider.
Submit your program provider application on their program provider web portal.* This is the one program provider you have selected. Do not upload transcripts or letters of recommendation to the program provider web portal. The Spelman Study Abroad Office will submit these documents on your behalf. Forward your request to Dr. Clay at kclay2@spelman.edu.
  10. Submit an online Course Approval Form.
  11. Submit the online International Travel Authorization Form via Etrieve.
