Maintaining our Safety

The motto of the Spelman Public Safety Department, "Protectors of Our Future", symbolizes commitment to the preservation of our individual, institutional, and collective futures. Our approach to maintaining the safest environment for our campus is built on the belief that only through constantly nurturing and expanding positive relationships with both internal and external partners can we meet our evolving community safety and security needs.

Law Enforcement

The Spelman College Public Safety Department is certified by the State of Georgia as a Police Agency. Personnel with Peace Officer status have the same police authority as City of Atlanta Police on the campus and within 1/4 mile. While the majority of our activities focus on crime prevention, we fully utilize our investigative and arrest powers when violations of criminal law occur within our jurisdiction.
