How to opt out of the Spelman College Health Insurance Plan

Attention Students and Parents:

Students with comparable proof of insurance coverage may waive, or "opt out" of the Spelman College Student Health Insurance Plan.

  • The deadline to submit the online waiver for the fall semester is July 15
  • The deadline to submit the spring semester waiver is January 15

The waiver MUST BE submitted semiannually on the aforementioned dates by all students. If your Student Health Insurance waiver is not approved and you can't provide proof of credible coverage, your student account will be charged $642 for the fall semester and $853 for the spring semester.

Submitting Insurance Information

Please go to elev834: Student Health Insurance Enrollment Management to enter your required insurance information and follow the instructions to create an account. You must provide your personal health insurance information through this link. When you have successfully completed the online waiver process, you will receive a confirmation email that includes your waiver reference number.

We suggest you print your confirmation email and retain it for your records.

Please note: A confirmation email does not mean you have been approved to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan.

Later you will receive a status email with information confirming you have been approved to waiver the Student Health Insurance Plan, or you will be notified that more information is needed before an approval can be granted. 

Remember, all students approved to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan will receive an approved to waive email. If you have any questions, please feel free to call 404-270-5249 or email hsd@spelman.edu.
