Beinecke Scholarship Program

Beinecke Scholarships are awarded for the graduate education of undergraduate students of exceptional promise to pursue opportunities available to them and to be courageous in the selection of a graduate course of study in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Students apply in their junior (third) year of college study.

How to Apply

Complete the Domestic Prestigious Opportunities Pre-Application Form. Once completed, we will send you a unique link to your shared drive folder to upload all your application materials. You are encouraged to work with a Faculty Mentor during the application process. The application packet must include:

• A PDF copy of the completed Beinecke application form.
• A personal statement, including a head shot (see guidelines).
• A current resume.
• A PDF copy of your unofficial transcript (you can send us an updated transcript in the spring, once fall grades are posted).
• Your application with all supporting materials must be uploaded by the third Monday of October.
• You will also need three letters of recommendation (must be from current or former college faculty/instructor). Recommenders will receive a unique link to upload their recommendation letter to your application file. Recommendation letters are due the third Monday of October.

If you advance to the interview round, note that all interviews are scheduled for the beginning of November. Only one nominee can be advanced to the Beinecke Selection Committee.

Personal Statement Guidelines

Your Beinecke Scholarship Personal Statement should be 1,000 words or less and describe your background, scholarly interests, plans for graduate study and career aspirations. The statement should include a discussion of some ideas and experiences that have shaped those interests, plans and aspirations. Remember to attach a headshot of yourself in the upper right-hand corner of your statement of purpose.
